The critical situation on the Delaware has worsened
dramatically! Water temperatures have climbed into the
eighties, the flow at
Callicoon is way below 600; you can
literally walk across the the main stem at Lordville and not get
your knees wet; numerous large stripers have been sighted in the
upper River (seeking cold water refuges just like the wild trout -
only the stripers eat the trout),
and wild trout are dying!!!
These horrors go on and still no water is being released.
Yesterday, at a very high level meeting with the DRBC/DEC, FUDR put
forth a doable "Emergency Plan" that would provide a consistent
482 cfs release from
July 1st to Sept 15th. It is currently being considered. This
fishery, however, needs help now!
There is currently so much
water in the Delaware system that, with this emergency plan, it
would be virtually impossible for the City of New York to experience
anything even resembling a drought, nor would the needs of any other
consumer be curtailed. The plan is simple, straight forward and is
a
doable emergency measure - it is not a long term solution.

I urge that you again come to the aid of this fishery during this
incredibly - and pathetically - critical time. Please, write to the
the DEC, DRBC, DEP and to the your local legislators urging them to
support this plan as an immediate emergency measure.
Craig Findley, President
Friends of the Upper Delaware River.
