| ONE BUG™
Friends of the Upper Delaware River are happy to announce the first annual One Bug™ fundraiser to be held in Hancock, N.Y. on April 25th, 26th and 27th. The three-day event is being held to celebrate the camaraderie of fly-fishing and draw attention to the challenges our rivers, streams, and all the people that live and work in our watershed. The event is already being well received with local businesses participating to make this a successful event. Business owners Michael Alper and Bruce Moore of Redhouse design are donating the use of their Old Capital Theatre for the Friday night opening ceremonies. Guides and fishermen will meet at the theatre to hear the rules of the contest and find out what stretch of river they will fish on Saturday. A live auction will be held auctioning off great items donated by many supporters of the One Bug™. Hors dourves and wine will be served and Hancock Liquor storeowner Theresa Allen will donate the wine. On Saturday morning contestants will start the day with a good country breakfast at the Hancock House and then travel with their guides to the river. All the fishing guides are donating there time for the two days of fishing to support the work of FUDR. Contestants are only allowed to use ONE BUG the entire day of fishing and if they loose it they may continue to fish but no additional points may be scored. The guides will serve as judge and jury once they have their fishermen in the boat and will be the official scorekeepers through out the day. The size of the fish determines are how points are scored and points are taken away if a fish is killed. Dinner on Saturday night will be at The Bluestone Grill a favorite among fishermen that visit the area. Owners Susan Alper and Lauren Speisman will be serving delicious meals to the hungry guides and contestants. The girls have given FUDR a break on the price per meal to help with the fundraising and have been very supportive from day one. Results of the days fishing will be revealed and then everyone goes home or to one of the hotels in the area to sleep before it starts all over again on Sunday. After breakfast Sunday morning at the Circle E Diner fishermen meet up with a new guide, a new fishing partner, and a new section of river to fish. At the end of the day all will meet back at the Hancock House that will serve as headquarters for the ONE BUG™ event. The closing ceremonies will consist of dinner, drinks and an awards ceremony for the winning teams. We are sure all involved will have a blast and FUDR wants to thank the Town of Hancock and everyone that has helped make the One Bug™ an event that FUDR believes will help provide safety for our community, benefit our fishery, and boost our local economy. |
