Highland gets new access to Delaware River

HIGHLAND- Congressman Marc Molinaro (R, NY-19) and Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburgh) joined local officials in the The Town of Highland in Sullivan County to officially open the new Delaware River access ramp.  The ramp cost more than a $500,000 to renovate.

“The Delaware River Basin Conservation Act is a piece of legislation that must be reauthorized,” said Molinaro.  The original legislation was signed in 2016.

“It is a bipartisan commitment to climate resiliency, access to waterways, preservation of quality water, and the connection that this waterway has with the communities and people that live along it,” concluded Molinaro.

The project was part of the Delaware River Basin Restoration program.  The Federal Government has allocated $13.5 million for improvements.

Jeff Skelding, Executive Director of the Friends of the Upper Delaware River explained what improvements like this mean.  “Projects like this, that benefit from the Federal Delaware River Program, which is largely what we are talking about today, in addition to state funding, requires partnerships.  We can’t get this stuff done without multiple levels of partnerships.”

“It is a symbol of what we can accomplish when we all work together,” said Assemblywoman Gunther.
